1969 was a great year for Camaro aficionados. Even today, some 40 years later, 1969 Chevy Camaros are considered a car collector's dream.

1969 Chevy Camaros truly were unique, both visually and functionally. The 1969 Chevy Camaros’ bodies incorporated all-new sheet metal, except in the hood and trunk lid, which gave the car a substantially sportier look. The 1969 Chevy Camaros in general had a much lower, wider, more aggressive look. Since Chevrolet only incorporated such a style in 1969, the 1969 Chevy Camaros truly are a special collector's dream items.

The RPO Z28 model remains a favorite among Camaro fans. It is no wonder; with features such as the F41 handling suspension with E70x15 raised-letter tires on seven-inch wide rims. A unique transmission feature includes an 850-cfm four-barrel carburetor, a bonus included only in 1969 Chevy Camaros.

Drivers also possessed the option of installing a cowl-induction hood, which had a valve that snapped open at 80-percent throttle to draw in cool air from the base of the wind shield. Amazingly, at 3,765 lbs, the Z28 could cover a quarter mile distance in 14.8 seconds at 101 mph. The car also could go from to 60 mph in 15.12 seconds.

The 1969 Chevy Camaro's ability to reach such high speeds made it a racing favorite. In fact, the COPO 9560 model was designed specifically for drag racing. With this and other models, the introduction of a four-wheel disc brake option greatly improved the braking effectiveness and capability of the cars, enhancing their performance in races.

The 1969 Camaro convertible and 1969 Camaro RS remain popular models as well among collectors. Speaking of collectors, 1969 Camaro restoration and collecting has become a favorite pastime of car lovers. The Internet has greatly helped in building a networking community for Camaro fans, in which people can post photos, search for 1969 Camaro parts (if repairing a model), and search for 1969 Camaros for sale.

Trivia-wise, an interesting myth has circulated surrounding the Camaro. The story: that basically, Chevrolet sold late-1969 Camaros as 1970 models to unsuspecting consumers. Perhaps this belief emerged because Chevrolet had experienced development problems responsible for delaying the introduction of the second generation model planned for 1970. However, there is no truth to this myth since all 1969 Chevy Camaros were assigned 1969 VIN codes.

Though a challenge, finding—and if necessary, restoring—1969 Chevy Camaros present an extremely satisfying feat to the fan of classic cars. For the Camaro-lover, the end result merits the costs, both in terms of time and money.
